Abandoned stash

last night was the second month i went to my new guild's meeting and i got there REALLY early...

see, the newsletter mentioned that a member was moving and donated her unwanted stash to the guild for $5 a pound!!

so wanna see what i scored??

(no far asking how many pounds i ended up with...i'm not telling)

check out these cool asian prints. alot look like kimono prints, which i like much better than 'today's' modern asian interpretations...

these 4 are my favorites



(fabric isn't like children- you can admit to having favorites *snicker snort*)

i also found this blue print. it's not cut, that the width of it- 4 yards and the little indigo scraps to go with it.

When Christie went to Japan, she brought me back some nice indigo type fabrics along with 3 panels, so these will live with those fabrics in the same quilt..i'll share that later

i found some nice 'vintage' batiks

check out the whales!!

and a sword/sail/marlin? fish

a couple of shiny metallic dutch wax prints *score*

some cool 80s blenders

i noticed ALOT of older Jenny Beyer fabrics. i grabbed the jeweled tones and blacks...

these striped paper cut looking fabrics...i liked the camel. the grey/red on the left was not wanting to photograph well at all...

these older metallic hoffman prints...

the third one from the left will fit in nicely in my Madri Gras quilt...

a cute litte calico christmas print

this print has the pebbles along the selvage with a 1994 copyright in the selvage

i found some solid blues. i plan on pairing these with some blue Fassett shot cottons and making the railfence quilt from denise schmidts 'modern quilting' book

i thought these 'printed' batiks were fun!

and finally some more random pickings...




it was fun pawing thru all the piles of fabric...and i promise to give it all a good home!

 

SURPRISE!!

moving into the house in the winter has made watching the yard come alive such fun!! not knowing what buds will lead to what and learning all the names of all the plants- it's been a learning experience.

i've been watching some lilies behind the AC unit since early spring. i thought they were common Easter lilies that didn't bloom for what ever reason....then i noticed blooms forming and have been checking everyday when i walk the dogs to see what surprise is next...

holy cow!!!

one of the few flowers i actually recognize and know!!

the blooms are as big as my hand!

and they smell amazing!

look at all the buds on that back stalk- more than 20!!

i take no credit on their cultivation- they came with the house :)


i can't wait til fall....i have a list of flowers i want to add to the collection!

SAL 2012 Part 10

here's the latest and greatest installment in my Scrap Bash Stitch-A-Long....

since i have unpacked (ie found) the rest of my SAL stuff, we are going to get this thing finished. there will be 6 more installments and all the blocks will be finished. i didn't want this to drag on as long as it has, but it has been fun and the quilt will be gorgeous!

so this is my long arm room- pretty run-of-the-mill boring: white cabinets, builder neutral walls...and photo bombing barney...

not exactly an inspiring fun place to be....

a friend of mine's son is an artist and i asked him if he wanted to paint my cabinet doors....i originally wanted a mural on the wall, but since this room won't be Nemo's home permanently, that was x-nayed. not to mention that davis would've crapped a squealing worm...

so off my doors went....

there's Zach working on them (thanks to sarah for the pic)

i gave him pretty much free rein with the design, i only asked for a 'quilt or die' type theme with a definite graffiti feel...

he didn't disappoint!!

Georgia Celebrates Quilts 2013 post #1

Well, the show is over and it's time to start thinking about the next one...

i will be doing two show posts- this one will be the quilts that i participated in (ie quilted)

*WARNING*  some serious eye candy is getting ready to happen :)

first- 'Crimson Radiance' designed and pieced by Charlotte, won Best of Show!!! *snoopy happy dance* i had to submit a change of address form cause i was living on cloud nine :)

long time readers will remember this quilt hung at Paducah. it also took first place in the Two Person, large category.

this is our wedding quilt, 'The Perfect Pair'. i entered it into the group category and it took second.

i also quilted the first place winner in the Group category- Cindy's Mocha Latte Stars

Maetha's 'Summer Holiday' was awarded Honorable Mention in the Two-Person, Mixed (an even amount of piecing and applique) category

 Amanda's Quilt 'Star Parade' won second in the Two-Person Pieced, Large category.

Pam's row quilt 'Stash of Gesse' won 3rd in the Two-Person pieced, Large

(so in the Two-person pieced, Large Catergory, i quilt the first, second, and third place winners)

 Kathy's 'Spring of Hope' won the 3rd place ribbon in Two-Person Applique.

Eddie's 'Soldier's: Service and Sacrifice' hung in the show

and Roxanne's 'Sylvia's Bridal Quilt' also was presented


so there's the ones i helped with....later, the ones that i liked.

did you hear that??

usually i love deadlines....i like the whoosh they make when they fly by  :)

but this deadline had to be met!! what deadline? the deadline for quilt drop off for the show in june...see, i finished my last customer quilt for the show on Friday and delivered it over the weekend...so when are they to be dropped off for the show???

sunday.

this sunday. in like, 6 days from now....*whew* that is way to tight for my tastes.

if your in the atlanta area, swing by!! make sure to say "hey!"

i finished Maetha's appliqued flag quilt- i worked on it over Memorial Day weekend...very appropriate!

i feathered all the pink and SID the appliques.

the pink is a drapery cotton

and i didn't seem to get a picture of the appliqued top border...i'll get one of it hanging in the show

the last quilt was Cindy's feathered stars.

i kept trying to put feathers and over-the-top quilting on it, but the quilt was telling me that it wanted subtle to keep the piecing the focus...

i can handle that :)

now i'm going to take a day or two to catch my breath, then i'll dive back into customer quilts...
