tag, i'm it.

karin over at Cascade Quilts tagged me and now i have to answer some questions. i'm not going to tag anyone back, but feel free to copy and paste the questions, answer in your own blog post, and leave the post link in the comments...

here goes:
1.) What is your favorite snack?
food :) ....oh, i have to narrow it down?  i like to snack on fresh, raw fruits and veggies. i set myself a goal to try to burn some fat, so i'm making better decisions about what i eat and how i eat it.
2.) Besides quilting what your next favorite hobby?
i'm an outdoorsy kind of girl. i like to fish, hunt, and shoot archery as well as skeet and trap.
3.) If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
mmm...i'd like to have some land with cattle and horses somewhere in 'big sky' country. but not anywhere too cold...maybe texas?
4.) Where does your inspiration come from?
everywhere... to be truly creative you have to be open to being inspired by anything, any time, any where. most of my quilts start with the simple question: I wonder what the quilt would look like if i put this and this together....?
5.) How much fabric are you hoarding right now?
due to the fact that my loving husband reads this, i'm pleading the fifth
6.) Do you wear makeup, and if you do, how often do you put it on?
i wear what i like to call 'natural'- under eye concealer, powder, and mascara...i consider myself extremely low maintenance...i can go days without it.
7.) What is your favorite part of the quilting process?
i like it all, but i do like the challenge of deciding on designs for the machine quilting. finding that perfect balance.... finishing a quilt is the best too- the last stitch in the binding. i hate cutting. i find it monotonous, repetitive, and boring.
8.) Are you a part of any local Quilt Guilds?
nope, and honestly, i find them cliquey and so far from being about quilting..i am more attracted to the online quilting community.
9.) How many quilting projects are you currently working on?
alot, i like to have numerous projects in various states of progress (both by machine and hand) so that i always have something to work on depending on what i want to do and what mood i'm in.
10.) If we went to a movie, what type of movie would you pick out?
comedy, but i won't turn down a good suspenseful psychotic thriller. i like the roller coaster of emotions
11.) If we went out for dinner, what restaurant would you pick?
a steak house. nothing makes life better than a good slab of steak and a tall glass of ice tea.

tuesday musings

(p.s. Santa uses the alias Ted....)
i went and voted in the GA republican primary. my voter registration guy was Santa, you can't take pictures inside the polling room, but i swear Santa checked my ID....no kidding, rosy cheeks, white curly hair and beard, and blue eyes complete with the mischievous twinkle.! He was even wearing a red golf shirt with a white collar. people, you can't make this stuff up! as i walked away i said, "i've been a really good girl" he laughed just like Santa!!!  i did ask, he is a Santa at christmas for private parties and such.

it's a small room and there weren't many people there when i left, and he waved and said "have a good day" i said "and to all a good night" he laughed that Santa laugh again. guess you would of had to been there....a little christmas magic in march :)

i plan on posting the second set of instructions for my Scrap Bash SAL tomorrow, and i have some big news that i'll share in a post all by itself......hint- paducah baby!

i got bored

i needed a change....i've been sporting my red hair for over a decade and i wanted something different looking back at me from the mirror...

so i had my red 'updated' and dyed the underneath blue.

but a tip- if you are going to have a friend photo the new do- wear a shirt that isn't the same color :)

♫ i'm smurf-y and i know it ♫

happy friday the 13th...

i was reading Pickledish's Blog today (written by Edie McGinnis)  and saw these 'sewing/quilty' related supersitions and couldn't pass up the oppurtunity to share....watch out for black cats crossing your path today :)

Seal nine pins, nine needles and nine nails into a jar to keep the evil quilt fairies away.

See a pin and pick it up, all the day you’ll have good luck. See a pin and let it lie, luck will surely pass you by.

Never sew on Sunday. You will have to pick out all those stitches with your nose when you get to heaven.

Scissors should never be given as a gift, it will cut the friendship.

If you upset a box of pins a surprise is coming your way as long as a few of the pins stay in the box.

A maid with no quilt at twenty-one will never see her bridal sun.

If you mend a dress while wearing it, someone will lie about you.

For every time a quilter pricks her finger, she will receive a kiss from her beau.

It is bad luck to sew clothing while someone is wearing it unless the person wearing the clothes has a piece of thread in their mouth.

Hearts should only be used on bridal quilts.

Always make a pillow case on New Years Eve to hold all of your troubles.

When you are sewing and your thread knots and tangles, someone is talking about you.

If you drop your scissors, your love may be unfaithful to you.

Leave a deliberate imperfection in a quilt. It’s a reminder that only God’s creations are perfect.

Sewing a swan’s feather into your love’s pillow will ensure fidelity.

Breaking a blade on a pair of scissors foretells discord and quarrels, breaking both blades at once is a sure sign that calamity is about to enter your life.

A girl who completes a patchwork quilt by herself will never marry.

If you make a bedspread, or a quilt, be sure to finish it or marriage will never come to you.

If you sew clothing on New Year’s Day, someone in your family will pass away.

Bridal quilts should have continuous borders of vines or ribbon-like patterns. A broken border foretells a broken marriage.

If you break your needle while sewing a dress, you will live to wear it out.

If a single woman is the first to sleep under a new quilt, she will dream of her future husband.

If you put the last stitch into a quilt, you will be the next to marry.

Lucky's caption contest ends sunday ( i bought a new little zippered pouch pattern and i'm itching to make one)....so jump over there and see if we can perk him up....

Birds on the Wires from Jarbas Agnelli on Vimeo.

the creator of this little video, Jarbas Agnelli, had this to say:

"Reading a newspaper, I saw a picture of birds on the electric wires. I cut out the photo and decided to make a song, using the exact location of the birds as notes (no Photoshop edit). I knew it wasn't the most original idea in the universe. I was just curious to hear what melody the birds were creating.

I sent the music to the photographer, Paulo Pinto, who I Googled on the internet. He told his editor, who told a reporter and the story ended up as an interview in the very same newspaper.

Here I've posted a short video made with the photo, the music and the score (composed by the birds)."

enjoy

i knew this already....

...but i still like it!

the fun theory

i can't wait til this 'movement' makes it across the puddle to the states! i love it when grown-ups decide to not take things so seriously...wouldn't it be a surprise to come across a 'fun' object that you boring-ly deal with everyday? i would imagine that it would be like experiencing the world as a child all over again! wouldn't it be even better if this could somehow become the 'norm' for everyday life?

one can wish right? *fingers crossed* be the change you want to see....

til then- HAVE FUN OR MAKE YOUR OWN!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
