it's just tree sex

it's that time of year again....pollen.

a pollen count of 500 is considered high. i checked ATL's pollen count and today's count is 8164!!!wth? most of the pollen today is from trees. my guess- pine. it's horrible. i feel hungover without the previous night's festivities :) my throat is rough, my eyes feel like they are full of sand, and i have a headache and i have a general sticky feel...

i find it amazing that as i'm reading this morning's blog posts, there are people with snow still on the ground and it was 77F at 10am this morning...

december in the south

today is december 5th and this makes the humidity in the summer worth it....

*phbbbbt* to those knee deep in snow....i have my windows open hehehe

of course we tend to get more stereotypical winter weather in January and early February.....for about 2 or 3 weeks then we start to see spring temps.....

the only drawback i can find- i can't do any snow dyeing...but there is a ice rinkup the road that dumps the zamboni outside.....

do you feel that?

i went to drop my wedding dress for alterations and across the street was a mcdonald's. i'm sitting in the drive through when i noticed that the truck was subtly moving. the truck has been idling rough and acts like it wants to jump the brakes. usually just letting it inch a bit forward stops this....hmm, it's still shaking.

i'll tell you exactly what it felt like- it felt like when i sit at a redlight on the bridge over I75 and you can feel the bridge move a bit from all the 18wheelers going under. i know that i'm sitting on slab concrete....*eyebrow knit*.....wth?

couple weeks ago i was sick with the ear infection, feels like vertigo. a quick swallow- nope...hmmm....

we live close to a rock quarry and on wednesday they blast, but at this point it's lasted too long and it's not wednesday....hmmm...

i turn off the radio- nope, i'm wasn't feling any bass...now i'm confused...oh well, it's my turn to order...*nom nom burger*

this was right before 2:00 yesterday.

i get home and watch fox news- an earthquake??? huh? well, that explains it...i'm not jumping on the OMG-we-had-an-earthquake panic bus, but i'm kinda glad that i decided to stop for a double hamburger otherwise i would of missed it.

i spoke to soon...

the universe got my email.

last night was scary windy weather. we were fortunate to have the worse just north and south of us. boy that wind- sounded like we lived next to a freight train interchange. i was surprised to never hear the weather siren tho...Ringold is north of us and they got hit really bad. Sew Be It quilt shop is in ringold and i called to check on them with no answer to my call. my thoughts go out to all those lost loved ones and now have to worry about rebuilding.
then i leave today to run an errand and come home to the subdivision being blocked by crime tape....WTH!

someone was murdered five houses up from us. what a sad, sobering moment. makes the weather last night seem so miniscule.

i knew something was up. all the emergency vehicles (squard cars, K9 officers, SWAT, and 6 detectives!) going the same direction as me- not good.  i pulled in just as the police were stretching the tape across the street. i had to park on the curb and walk behind the houses to get home. they caught 2 of the 3 suspects. they were young too, 4 lives ruined in the blink of an eye over something stupid.

hug your loved ones. like they say, "you're not promised tomorrow. today might be it."

they got it right!

one thing i've learned in my time in the ATL, is that the weather here is subjective. if you don't like it, wait 15 minutes, it'll change. so when they started 'forecasting' a 'blizzard' for the area starting tonight (schools started annoucing closings last friday!) i'll admit i was a bit skeptical...

...well, butter my butt and call me Biscuit. they got it right! three days in advance *applause* 1.5 inches in less than 45 minutes and it's still coming down hard...thank goodness i have a sewing room full of stuff to keep me occupied. if we lose power- i have a treadle :)

(as i type- davis is riding the 4wheeler to the store *shrug* 'why?' you ask... so he can say he has done it in the snow....*head shake* men...)

a BIG thank you to Lisa...she pointed out that i can't count. I messed up some square counts in the BOM's setting triangle directions, but i fixed it and uploaded the corrected .pdf...hey- i had the right number of strips to cut, just missed the number of squares to cut from the strips)

white christmas!

we had a white chirstmas for the first time here in the ATL area since the late 1800s...we got a light powdering back in 1983, but that doesn't count...

here's a shot of the house and my punny attempt at christmas lights. notice they are on the inside...

look how big those flakes are.

mini-mon got a nice snow coat

here's barney's reaction to the news of  snow... i have to admit i agreed.

we spent the christmas weekend on the couch in front of the TV.

hope your christmas was festive and the very best wishes from us to you in the upcoming new year. (this is the end of the first decade of the millenium)

guess what it did today?

i'll give you three guesses, but the first two won't count.

just a light powder....nothing like the blizzard in the north midwest, but snow none the less!!!

temperate perspective

they don't call it hot-lanta for nothing. i'm not one to complain about the weather. it's summer it's suppose to be hot...and it's cold in the winter. that is an expected fact.....they only solstice i have is that we still have july and august to look forward to.   *unenthusiastic clapping*

so i dug these out to remind me that back in febuary i was so looking forward to these tempertatures....

that's right, barney thought he had to eat it all.....it was funny to watch him try. he soon gave up.....

crap- it didn't work....i'm still all sweaty....*sorry* women don't sweat....we glisten :)

spring in my step

it's spring whether the memo made it to mother nature or not. thought i'd share the signs from my backyard.

the daffoils are a little saggy due to the cold snap. they'll look up and smile again when the sun pops out to shine down......

then there's these which smell really good, and i can't remember the proper name...aren't they paperwhites?

and we welcome a new life into the world. i actually found the missing circle a couple feet away. barney tried to eat it *yuck* it's the size of a robin's egg so i think it's a mourning dove's egg (i couldn't help to think how many it would take to make a descent omelet....)

today i'm working on getting my BOM quilt top finished. i want to use it in my design class up in NY this weekend. so i'll take lots of pictures and i promise a great post when i get back.

type to ya later!

snow + ATV = redneck fun!

when it snows, there's something about the pristine cleanliness of snow.....something that makes you just want to destroy it :P

the next door neighbor's daughter wanted to ride our new ATV

then it was my turn to have some fun...notice all the snow on the front of my coat....

rain rain go AWAY!

davis has a little saying he says: win yur skert, say yur skert. (translation: when you're scared, say you're scared)

well, i'm skert. and getting nervous...
if you've watched the news, the southeast is getting TONS of rain! last night my area got 10-12 inches- overnight! my machine is in the basement, and we live on the edge of a flood plain. the little itty bitty wet weather creek (and i mean little- a better description would be the trickle creek) in the field behind the house banked yesterday and i'm close to lake front property.

i have no phone and with the thunder and lightening, i don't dare turn on Nemo. oh, speaking of thunder: it's not like you get a clap and a minute or two later you get another. NOPE- it's a constant rumble....constant. you know the ones that makes the house vibrate. that starts messing with your head...and adding fuel to the nervousness fire

lucky's a mess. i had to give him a puppy prozac (i'm thinking i might try one). he hates storms and we've had one for a solid week now. i looked at the weather channels site- it's going to do this for the remainer of this week...*sarcasm* yah!

it's funny how atlanta is getting weird weather lately....last year the severe drought, now all this rain. let's not forget the tornado that went through downtown recently...i hate to think about this winter....*knock on wood* no blizzards please! *sigh* it raining so hard, it pushed the spouts off the gutters....

it hasn't been this bad since hurricane dennis moved though...i'd almost say this is worse. see, i didn't have nemo sitting in the basement then....if you could see me you'd wonder if i'd flipped my lid. i'm running around the sewing room checking the carpet around the edges of the room. i'm ready to start carrying stuff upstairs if i feel even the slightest dampness...i have a mental list of what goes first...hey, all's not lost. davis got the boat back this weekend...*grin*

i'm going to try to relax with some fabric therapy-i might try to piece the log cabin blocks for my fall block swap.
