medallion quilt part one

a while back Linda posted pictures of her medallion quilt, a freebie from Patchwork Pumpkin in Australia.  to recieve each part you send in a picture of your completed previous section and they email you the directions to the next part!!

what fun, huh?? :)

so here's my completed Part One. it measures 20.5inches square.

it's been a while since i sewed with such small pieces!!

inner child

i got a large box in the mail today....?? i didn't order anything

due to the crappy packing, i could peek inside and i knew instantly what it was!!

*big smile*
davis ordered me a nemo plushie!

a BIG nemo plushie!

(shark bait, ew ah ah)
it's almost as big as barney....what am i saying, it is as big as barney

in my excitement, i had to do some changes on the bed so i could see what it might look like....

quilt, pillowcases, and plushie

*squee*

i totally indulge my inner child... if i don't, she keeps me up at night

don't judge me, i know i'm weird...

viva la amour

i got the 9inch wedding blocks sewn together today...now it just needs a border. suggestions? i was thinking a dark skinny inner border and a 4inch finished outer border, but what color???

i'm wanting to get it done before our *first* anniversary next month....i think i'll be able to handle that :)

thanks to all that participated and made blocks!!

i have backing fabric- pears. i'll need a strip down the center, so that what's the darker green pears will be. i'll also piece the label into the backing and quilt over it (i'm loving doing that!!)

(i haven't forgot about the 12inch blocks)

very girly

i quilted kathy's heirloom quilt...she took a class on heirloom sewing and this quilt is her class sampler.

the fabric behind the lace was cut-away, so a piece of pink fabric was on top of the batting.

the only thing i wish i would of done- quilted the feathers in the sashing with a pink thread to help visually break up the top...of course i realized this AFTER i was done....

houses

i finished melinda and tammy's house BOM..they were similar but different. each house represented a month, some more obvious than others...

i added lots of fun little details...

the halloween house has a face- fangs in the door and eyes in the windows... it's not slap-you-in-the-face obvious

i like the way the trees look quilted. that idea took some time to percolate :)

the December house got Christmas lights across the eaves and a bow on the door

fun quilts to quilt....not so serious

tah-done!

'South Beach' is a quilt!!

i have the binding made, but i'll wait to sew it on, it's too hot to tackle it right now....

*note* i only allow barney on my quilts....

lucky day

i always thought it would be cool to have a 13th birthday cause every once in a while, your birthday would be on friday...

that and being born on leap year day...

good luck today!!

an unexpected visitor

well, it wasn't so much 'unexpected' as a 'forced' visit....

i saved this little guy from being a Barney snack. i knew something was wrong when i opened the back door and he didn't fly away with the rest of the birds in the yard. my guess is he fell out of his nest tree and hasn't quite mastered the flying thing to make it back to his family. i have a call into a wildlife rescuer....

i won't forget the symbolism either...a visit from the blue bird of happiness....

davis will laugh- can't even walk the dogs and come back without a pat down...

it's all in the name

so the other day i posted about my nameless spiderweb top that needed a name. i had lots of great suggestions and i even considered one or two, but i keep going back to what i saw when i gazed at it...

so the quilt without a name now has a name-"South Beach"

Davis proposed to me on South Beach and i remember the art deco hotels and all the vibrant colors, especially at night with all the glowing neon.

the quilt measures 92 inches by 95 inches, so two widths of fabric would not be enuf for the backing. since i cut the outer border on the lengthwise grain, i pieced the leftover border in the middle of the backing....and since i was piecing the backing- i went ahead and pieced in the label.

if you decide to do this, make sure the writing is large enuf to be read once it is quilted over. my label measures around 9 by 10 inches. i've also appliqued the label on the backing and quilted over it too.

so now i have a flimsy, backing, and batting. i just need to get two customer quilts finished and i'll get it quilted!!!

what's in a name?

it's an UFO turned flimsy, but it still needs a name...

it's very bright!! that background is neon pink!!

you can read all about it in this post
so what should i name it?? i have an idea of two, but i want to see what your reaction is....

the border doesn't clash as bad IRL as ir does in the pictures.

stay cool my friends!

i was going to blog about how hot it is, but i'm not the only one suffering...instant perspective check, huh? thank goodness for AC and floor fans. it is, after all, summer in HotLanta...i'm going to try to fry an egg on the asphalt later. i've always wanted to do that.

i was looking at the weather here versus Afghan where Davis is at.....guess what!? it's hotter here, not including the heat index...it 'rained' this morning a bit. either that or a flock of birds flew over the house and peed all at the same time :)
