home for way ward fabric

so here's what i found during shop hop that i felt i just had to give a good home to :) ....(in no particular order)

here's what i bought at Heritage in newnan....nemo fabric and three cool patterns. i could not of lived with myself if i had not gotten the clown fish fabric...

at Quilts n Fixins in jonesborough i found a pup fabric to add to the collection. they are known for their variety of dog fabrics (i could make 60 quilts using only the dog fabrics i have) and a green dot batik that i have actually been looking for...isn't the brown dog 'howling' the cutest! he looks like he's smiling...notice the one sleeping under a quilt?

at Patchwork Cottage i found a nice red/orange batik i liked....and i picked some nice fat1/4s in colors that caught my eye...i will add to them from my stach and do a nice spring colored quilt...

at GA sewing and quilting i found the cutest print with featherweight looking sewing machines (a collection which i kept seeing at the other stores), a nice bright lemon yellow batik which is a color that is hard to find, and an orange background dog fabric coordinate which is also a hard to find color. i also picked up a fat1/4 of that odd batik fabric....

at Sweet Home in conyers i found another nice dog fabric (ok shannon NO more dog fabric....) which i will make into pillow cases. the rust colored fabric will be the cuff. i love the green polka dot french bulldog

at A Scarlett Thread i kinda got carried away...i bought this tunic pattern cause now that i have a serger i want to learn to make some simple patterned clothes for me....melanie said this would be a good pattern to start with. they had a sample in the store and i liked the shape of it.

then i found these homedec weight fabrics and intend to make a tote with it...the lime green dot will be the lining

also i added to my deer fabric stash (yes i am collecting deer fabric), found 3 nice B&W prints, and a nice purple and orange fabric print.

heres the pile with the new plaque sign i got at A Scarlet Thread that sums it all up perfectly...ok now you have to promise: not a peep to davis...

Greater Atlanta Shop Hop 2010

me and my friend Melanie finished the Greater Atlanta Shop Hop today. it is quite appropriate seeing that today is National Quilting Day...11 shops in two days and putting around 350 miles on the odometer! the weather couldn't of been any better...sunny skies and great warm spring temperatures. Barney even tagged along and behaved better than i could of wished for!

the shop hop theme was "As American as..." and each store had a seperate theme to finish the sentence. bear with me, this will be a photo heavy post....i apologize in advance for forgetting to take pictures of Tiny Stitches and Little Quilt's Shop hop quilts.....(actually- i quilted T.S's quilt posted here....i just couldn't tell you what it was then and L.Q posted a sneak peek pic on their blog)

okay, day one:

1.we started at Tiny stitches who were American as...."popcorn and a movie". they had thier classroom decorated as a theater with "gone with the wind" and "wizard of oz" playing on a TV...the smell of popcorn filled the store adding to the complete atmosphere.

2. on to little quilts where it was as American as a picnic. they had the cutest little bug sculptures decorating the store. it was hard not to buy some of the ant ones...

3.then to red hen for American as the family dog, where i spaced completely out and totally forgot pictures...*sorry*

4. heading northeast to Georgia Quilting and Sewing where it was American as Mark Twain. Mr. Twain was seen stamping passports and i even spied a whitewash bucket sitting in the store. this was the first of two new stores participating in the shop hop....

5. puttering on over to Patchwork Cottage where it was as American as best friends. this is the second of two new stores on the hop, and we were asked to sign a piece of fabric to be incorporated into a quilt for the owner...i doodled on it...

6. then towards atlanta to intown quilters who were as American as folk art. they were all wearing the shop shirt...darn, i forgot to get one *sarcasm* darn i'll just have to make the trip back and get one later....*grin*

7. then out I20 to sweet home quilt co. where ti was American as mom and apple pie. just inside the door was a table with two slices of apple pie complete with glasses of milk. the smell of baking apple pies filled the air...such a comforting and cozy smell..

8. finally ending day one at Patrick's where it was as American as Walt Disney. They share space inside a feed store and that alone adds to the 'country' feel of it....i played in the buckets that held all the seeds for future gardens, just like when i was a kid and pa-paw and i went to the feed store for tomato plants. they had disney themed stuffed animals hanging from the ceiling...i even spied Nemo swimming around up there...i found him!

then day two:

1. starting out at A Scarlet Thread where they were celebrating America with a disco theme. you couldn't help 'getting down' and 'boogieing the night away' defiantly the shop with my favorite soundtrack! everyone was seen wiggling to the funky beats!

2. then to Quilts and Fixings for the wild west...the employees all greeted us with a hardy "howdy" and were all decked out in their cowboy finest. this is the shop i always look forward to visiting, they go all out with decorating for their theme, this year was no disappointment. they had a photo-op wanted poster.

wait- who is that dastardly bandit??? i think the "alive" option is preferred...

3. ending at Heritage Quilts & Fabrics for a big bang with American as the Fourth of July...they were playing fireworks songs....it was a fitting end of the hop becasue i felt very american as i left.

a big thank you to all the shops, owners, and employees. a L.O.T. of hard work goes into making this such a fun experience.

i think i'll have to agree with barney....i'm a pooped puppy.....i'll post later with pictures of my 'loot' and i'll announce my blog birthday winner also....

now i have to work on the very last shop block (Sweet Home Quilts in Conyers) and then do my three filler blocks (which will give me 12 blocks, my friend karen's going to do embroidery for them) then all the sashings and corner stones...then i have to quilt it...whew!

Under Construction!

i was itchn' to do some piecing, so since i was all excited about the shop hop quilt, i started it. remember the theme was "The Magic of Childhood" and each shop chose a theme to fit into the main theme. The goal of Shop Hop is to go to all 9 greater Atlanta quilt shops, have your passport stamped, then on to the next one. at each shop they give you the directions for their store's block and the directions to their shop hop quilt. Some give out 'goodie' bags with special treats: candy, fabric, or small quilty notion. When you go to all nine shops, you give your fully stamped passport to the last store to be entered into the drawings. Apparently i didn't win anything, because one of the shops sent out an email with their drawing's winner. *pout* There's always next year. i'll focus on making my quilt *smile*

The first block (L to R) is Little Quilts. their theme was "Under the Big Top".
the next block is from Quilts n Fixins', their theme was "Saturday Morning Cartoons." i actually used the fabric that was in my goodie bag from them. next row , Red Hen Fabric's block, their theme was "Down on the Farm'. lastly, there is Patrick's with "Weekend at Grandma's".

so four blocks down, 8 to go. i'll post my progress.

2009 Shop Hop

well, another Greater Atlanta Shop Hop enters the history books. Davis and i went to all 9 stores on saturday. starting with Intown and ending close to home at Tiny Stitches. according to Davis it was a 204 mile trip. (last year's was 350 miles with 13 shops) I realized too late that i had forgotten my camera :) so i have no pictures. i plan on making the shop hop quilt (why not) this year's theme was 'the magic of childhood' and i had the brillant idea to make each shop's block with fabrics that fit the theme of their respective childhood memory. now i have to decide what background color to choose. i'm debating a pale baby blue...i will make 3 extra blocks to make the layout and even 12 blocks. the three extra will include the details of the shop hop. i promise to post pics. i'm hoping to win the grand prize of $100 gift certificate to each of the 9 shops or the second prize: a Baby Lock sewing machine. *fingers crossed*

i REALLY had fun! i bumped into a lot of people i don't see often and got the chance to go to shops that i don't get to visit alot too. i did buy some fabric. i added some brown and blue batiks to my new project's stash. and i found some unique novelty fabric. all in all i was worn out by the time we got home, but still had tons of fun. now i have next year's shop hop to look forward to!
