i have finished my swap quilt!
i put a 2inch finished white border around the blocks. they looked crowded up against the inner border without it. then a 2inch finished inner border with a 6inch finished outer border. my quilt measures 83 x 96 inches.
i really like the look of the freehand BF. it's not my original idea, and i was going to link to the tutorial i had for them. i had pinned it, and apparently the owner had her stuff removed from Pinterest, so it's not there anymore and i don't remember who did it *shrug* her loss....
here's the backing. i chose a busy print cause i was doing a simple E2E. it's a Denyse Schmidt print from Joann's.
i had to add a strip between my backing panels, so i went ahead and pieced the label into the backing. i lucked out and had enough of my outer border to do this.
all that is left is to find fabric for the binding. *crap* i have to go to the LQS tomorrow ;)

It's a wonderful quilt!
ReplyDeleteVery nice.... I love the look of Baptist Fan quilting! You did a very nice job with free-handing them!
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely Shannon. I'd love to know how you did it, I've only done BF with circle rulers, would love an easier method.
ReplyDeleteThe person you are looking for might be Mary Johnson. She has a blog.
ReplyDeleteblog.maryquilts.com She uses this freehand a lot. She had a problem with Pinterest and removed all of her stuff. Hope this helps. Oh, by the way, quilt is beautiful ! Glenda
Beautiful! I just love those cheery fabrics in your quilt.

Totally perfect quilting for that quilt! I would have loved to see the tutorial on that pattern... Seems like a lot of travel stitching the only way I can think of doing it, I will have to think on it more. Geat finish.
ReplyDeleteand it is a real beauty, what quilt block is that? please
ReplyDeletethank you
Woot! Looks great. The quilting is perfect. I'm thinking this would be a great quilt for my huge collection of 30s prints.
ReplyDeleteThis quilt looks wonderful...and the white border makes it look like it's floating!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! That is a such a sweet quilt.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of free hand BFans too. (I like the rulered ones too) It's perfect choice for your quilt-luv that backing fabric too.
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt in thirties fabrics with the BF quilting - don't know what the pattern is, but I call it Hugs and Kisses. I agree with Glenda (anonymous) - it's Mary Johnson's blog. If you look in the [how to's] tab at the top it is the fourth one down - http://blog.maryquilts.com/2009/03/18/baptist-fans-freehand-by-machine/ . You might also want to read why she blocked her stuff from being on Pininterest
ReplyDeleteI am a big fan of both of you and read your blogs every morning. Anne in Australia
my doodley friend - i, too, initially thought it was heartstrings mary whose tute you used for the freehand BF's. but when i look at yours closely, i do not see that you backtrack like she does...so, i think you must make your own tute to show us how it's done.
ReplyDeleteand....in case you weren't aware...this is a GORGEOUS quilt & the quilting is perfect for it. i can't wait to get mine done. thanks so much for organizing this swap. i know it takes alot of work. you da best!
I REALLY like this one, Shannon. Your choice of a BF design is perfect on it. I can't believe you did that without marking! So impressive.
ReplyDeleteWowie! I really, really like it. And the purple border is so cute with all the other colors. I love the Baptist Fan and you, of course, did a great job!
ReplyDeleteI'll come get my blocks maybe on Monday--the 23rd?
Karen
