i am hooked on travel channel's new show (well, not new, it's on the third show so far....new to me) Meet the Natives, USA....
it's a really good show! it features 5 natives from Tanna, an island in the pacific ocean, that come to America and spend a week with different families (which they call 'tribes') the fun part is their insight on our 'excessive' lifestyle...it can get quite funny...they're observations are innocent, childlike, and insightful at the same time.
my favorite moment so far is from the new york show (about my only good thought from that particular show, the NY show is not one of my favorites....it's very...um....i can't think of a word...i'll tell you what- go watch and form your own opinions...i'll keep mine to myself...anywhoo)...they see a older homeless person in central park and they are trying to understand it. they are discussing how the elders of their tribe are taken care of by the younger generations, then one of the tribesmen (i'm still learning their names) says in a matter of fact way "well, no one must love him." they don't understand why he is homeless when they are so many buildings with so many layers (floors) that surely somewhere there is somewhere for him to stay...
it's a nice show to watch. such a nice break from the mindless crap passing as entertainment these days...it's a show that will make you sit back and think about what the natives would say if they came to your house...i wish they could come hang out with me for a week....wonder what they would say about my quilting...?
i can't wait for the orange county show...i wanna see what the natives say about the trip to the amusement park.....and the roller coaster ride......
